Radionuclide identification devices

Radionuclide identification devices (RIDs) are hand-held measuring instruments for the detection and identification of radioactive materials (natural, medical, industrial). They are mainly used at national borders, by the police and firefighters to localize radioactive sources and determine the radioactive constituting substances, but also they may find implementation in application in all branches of science, industry and medicine. RID instruments are mostly used to measure gamma (photon) radiation, but optionally can measure alpha, beta and neutron radiation. These devices are also called identifiers and are often combined - multifunctional devices which are used for spectrometry.
